Life in Montauk
Montauk is “The End” — literally the last stop on Long Island’s South Fork, and a genuinely different place from the villages to its west. It grew up as a working fishing port, not a resort town, and that history still shows: the harbor still runs commercial boats alongside charter fleets, and Montauk Point Lighthouse still marks the actual tip of the island. Over the past decade a surf-and-nightlife scene has grown up around that working-town core, drawing a younger, more casual crowd than East Hampton or Southampton — Montauk has real edge to it that the villages further west have mostly smoothed away.
