Life in Greenport
Greenport is the North Fork’s commercial and social hub — a genuine working harbor village with a walkable downtown, a year-round ferry to Shelter Island, and more restaurants open outside summer than anywhere else on the North Fork. It has real maritime history (tall ships still dock at Mitchell Park) alongside a growing food and arts scene, and it’s the closest thing the North Fork has to an urban center: dense, lively, and easy to get around without a car once you’re there.
Amenities & Lifestyle
- A fully walkable downtown with restaurants, shops, and galleries open year-round
- Mitchell Park, the marina, and the historic carousel on the waterfront
- Year-round ferry service to Shelter Island
- A working harbor with real maritime and shipbuilding history
- Greenport schools, serving the village directly
Good to Know
Greenport commands some of the North Fork’s highest per-square-foot prices for exactly the reasons above — walkability and year-round vibrancy are genuinely scarce on the East End, and buyers pay for it. Inventory close to the village core moves quickly relative to the more rural hamlets around it.
